What is Frame Time?
While FPS (Frames Per Second) tells you how many images are rendered in one second, Frame Time measures the exact duration between each individual frame. A consistent 60 FPS should have a frame time of 16.67ms per frame. If one frame takes 10ms and the next takes 30ms, you will perceive a stutter, even if the average FPS still looks high.
Understanding 1% and 0.1% Lows
Averages can be misleading. A game might run at a smooth 100 FPS average but still feel "choppy" due to occasional spikes.
- 1% Low: The average of the slowest 1% of frames. This represents the "hitch" you might feel during gameplay.
- 0.1% Low: The average of the slowest 0.1% of frames. These represent the most severe stutters or momentary freezes.
The closer these numbers are to your average frame time, the smoother and more consistent your experience will be.
