What Is 1% Low FPS and Why It Matters
Average FPS tells you how fast a game runs overall. But it does not tell you how smooth it feels. That’s where 1% Low FPS becomes important.
The 1% Low measures the average of the slowest 1% of frames during gameplay. It highlights stutters, lag spikes, and inconsistent frame delivery.
The Formula Used
First, collect all FPS samples. Calculation follows these steps:
- 1% Count: Total Frames × 0.01
- 1% Low FPS: Sum of Lowest 1% Frames ÷ Number of Those Frames
For deeper testing, you can also calculate 0.1% Low using: 0.1% Count = Total Frames × 0.001.
Why High 1% Lows Matter
Two systems may both show 70 FPS average. However, if one has a 1% Low of 65 FPS and another has 45 FPS, the first system will feel significantly smoother. Competitive gamers rely on stable frame delivery to maintain consistent aiming and reaction times.
